Stein Beals
Hi, my name
is Stein. I have been
kayaking for about three years. I would like to say that I am a
professional
kayaker at the age of 15, but let’s stick to the truth. For
about a year now I
have been taking kayaking pretty seriously, but since I finished 11th
in this years Jr. Team Trails, I have been taking it to the extreme. I
have
been competing on the national level coming in third in the age group
nationals.
Last May,
my mother and I took a
4,000-mile road trip to Wausau, Wisconsin
for Jr. Team Trials. It
was a great experience for my teammate, Jessica, who was also there and
me. There
we got to experience a whole new culture. There were a lot of nice
people,
artery clogging deep fried cheese curds, and a great race. I placed 11th
and Jessica got third and went on to the Jr. World Championships in
Slovenia.
This
summer I decided to step up to the plate and start training regularly.
We went
to the U.S. Cup #1 and the age group nationals on the Snoqualmie River
in North Bend, Washington.
I placed third and Jessica placed first. We were there for a week and
then we
went to British Columbia
in Canada.
We
raced on the Chilliwack River
where the U.S. Cup
#2 and Junior Olympics were. Half way through that week on the
Chilliwack River,
I went to the famous wave, the
Scokumchuck. That was awesome. Then after that week of racing, we went
to the Kananaskis River
in Canmore, Alberta.
We competed in the wild water race,
the rodeo, the boater cross, and the U.S.
cup #3. I placed 2nd
in the wild water, 2nd in the rodeo, my first
ever rodeo, and 1st
in the boater cross.
Now I am
starting school and training
every day. Hoping that next year I can do better in Jr. Team Trials and
maybe
even go to the Jr. Worlds.
